Breckenridge Community

The Breckenridge School District is located on the western edge of our state and shares the border with our sister city, Wahpeton, ND. We are located approximately one hour south of Fargo. The communities of Breckenridge and Wahpeton are commonly referred to as the “Twin Towns”. Our community is unique insomuch that we have two rivers (Otter Tail and Bois de Sioux) that converge to create the Red River of the North. The uniqueness of all this is the Red River runs north into Canada and empties into Lake Winnipeg, which eventually drains into the Arctic Ocean. Our community boasts of some of the richest, fertile land in the state and country. Agriculture is a big part of the economy of Breckenridge with typical crops of sugar beets, corn and soybeans, as well as other small grains. A great number of agricultural corporations and businesses are housed in the “Twin Towns” which provide outstanding job opportunities. The St Francis Healthcare Campus is a state-of-the-art regional hospital that enhances our city. Along with this, in our sister city, we are most fortunate to have the Chahinkapa Zoo. This nationally accredited zoo is home to many animals from all over the world. Breckenridge is a great place to attend school, live and work.
